Hungary start to a discussion with EU partners on the possibility of recovery of the penalty of death. As it is known, in accordance with Article 1 of Protocol №6 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms – the death penalty was abolished.
That position of the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban has caused a wide resonance in the society. Despite the increase in crime, particularly in Hungary, we must not forget that the abolition of the ban on the death penalty may become a essential departure from the common European values of humanism. Despite the fact that the Viktor Obrans proposal is extremely hypothetical – this has become the basis for the birth of the relevant discussions at the level of all participating States of the European Community.
