Usually, foreigners who reside in Ukraine are unaware of their right to invite foreigners to Ukraine for private purposes. Of course, this belongs to those foreigners who must get a visa in order to come to Ukraine. Foreigners may obtain a short-term visa on the basis of a letter of invitation from a foreigner.
Foreigners who obtained a temporary residence permit or a permanent residence permit in Ukraine have a right to invite foreigners to Ukraine for private purposes. The invitation letter from foreigner will be a legal ground for obtaining Ukrainian type C visa (Short-term visa). This visa type is issued to foreign citizens, whose stay will not exceed 90 days. Short-term visa may be for one, two or multiple entries in Ukraine.
The invitation letter is a document that is made in Ukrainian. Important step while preparing the invitation letter is notarizing of this document. Foreigner needs to have a tax ID in order to notarize this document. That is why foreigner should have or previously receive a tax ID. The invitation letter must contain the following information:
- personal information about the foreigner who invites a foreigner to Ukraine;
- personal information about the foreigner who is invited to Ukraine;
- information about foreigner`s stay of in Ukraine (purpose of visit, a period of intended stay, number of entries and place of stay in Ukraine).
A substantial part of the invitation letter is foreigner`s obligations towards possible costs related to the invited foreigner`s stay in Ukraine and departure to the country of origin. Moreover, foreigner, who resides in Ukraine, should confirm s/he will reimburse expenses incurred as a result of government-sponsored of invited foreigner`s deportation according to the court’s decision. Expenses may include the following: tickets for foreigner and those who accompany s/he, supporting services during foreigner`s stay in the centre of temporary stay for foreigners who are illegally residing in Ukraine, identification services, issuing documents and any other actions related to forced deportation, etc.
The invitation letter must be appended by copies of a temporary residence permit or permanent residence permit in Ukraine and a certificate on registration of place residence address in Ukraine.
Note that the original of the invitation letter must be submitted to the Ukrainian diplomatic mission abroad by the foreigner who is invited to Ukraine while applying for the visa.
